When you use Booking Pro for the first time the Database Settings Wizard is automatically displayed to allow you to create a new database or to connect to an existing database.

To create a new database:

  1. Click "Next" to display the Current Settings, ensure that the "Create a new database" option is selected and click "Next".

  1. If you have used the Booking Pro Setup CD to install the database software and are creating the database on the same computer then the defaults displayed will be suitable for installing Booking Pro so you need only click "Next" to accept the defaults. However, if you are using a different database server you will need to change the server and authentication method for connecting to the server to create the database and name of the database you wish to create. The authentication method you use must have the necessary permissions to create databases on the server.

  1. Enter the user name you wish to use when signing on to Booking Pro, together with the password, followed by the name of your Organisation. Then click "Next" to create the database and display the "New Settings" page.

  1. The defaults for the new Database Settings are automatically set to the ones used when the new database was created so you can normally click "Finish" to accept the revised settings. However, if necessary, at this point you can change the authentication method to specify how you wish to connect to the database in normal usage of the software. If you change the authentication the user must have "db_owner" permission to the Booking Pro database to ensure that all of the features available within Booking will work correctly.

  1. The Welcome page is then displayed to allow you to sign in to Booking Pro using the User name and password you entered in paragraph 3.

Can I create the database on an existing SQL Server (e.g. the one used by SIMS)?

If you do not wish to use Booking Pro with the database software supplied on the installation CD then please refer to the advice given in Using Booking Pro with SQL Server.
